UAE-Team Emirates' Tadej Pogacar managed to stay with the favourites' group at the crazy 17th stage of the Vuelta a España.
The stage started straight away with echelons that broke the peloton in two. The Slovenian stayed in the group in which most of the favourites were, except Nairo Quintana -who was in front.
The rider managed to stay in that group for the remaining of the stage, despite the changes of the rhythm of Movistar to slim down that group as much as possible. As a result of this escape, Quintana moved up to the second position of the General Classification and Pogacar dropped to the fourth place.
"I don't think anyone today expected it to be so fast," said the young Slovenian at the end of the stage. "It was flat out all day which is crazy considering the stage was over 200km. It was quite a nervous at the start, then when the break went the guys from Jumbo and my teammates did everything to keep the gap.
"Tomorrow we are back in the mountains so it will be interesting to see how things go after the fast day we had today."
