Jumbo-Visma's Primoz Roglic managed to defend the Red Jersey at the Vuelta a España despite being one of the victims of the day's crash.

There was a crash in the peloton with 60 kilometres to go that affected several riders of Jumbo-Visma, including Roglic and Tony Martin -who had to abandon due to the injuries. Although Movistar tried to take advantage of this by accelerating, it eventually slowed down and waited for the GC riders to rejoin. The peloton arrived compact to the finish line.

"The boys crashed in front of me," explained Roglic. "I was unable to dodge the crash and hit a wall. We were forced to chase. The battle is still in full swing. Fortunately, I have kept little in the bank and I look forward to tomorrow's stage."

"I was a little unlucky with the crash but I’m still here. I don’t really know what happened. I didn’t see it, I was behind. I just tried to come back to the front, full gas. I think first of all I need to see replays and then maybe I can comment. With the team, we went as fast as possible to get a new bike and return to the bunch. It could be better but it could also be a lot worse and I’m looking forward to tomorrow. We’re one day closer (to winning La Vuelta)."
