Alejandro Valverde is set to lead the Spanish selection at the upcoming World Championships of Yorkshire. Iván García Cortina will be the second leader of the roster.

The Spanish Cycling Federation has confirmed the complete roster for the competition days after releasing a preliminary selection. The current world champion Valverde will headline the line-up after showing his good form in the Vuelta a España, where he finished in the second overall position and did a good performance on the mountains.

Three riders of Movistar, three of Astana, one of team Ineos and one of Bahrain-Merida will join Valverde in the road race of the World Championships. On the next days, all the roster -with the exception of Jonathan Castroviejo, will meet in Alicante to train and spend some days together to build a team spirit and work on the tactics for the race.

"We have designed a very competitive team thinking on the course that we will face and the ways the race can develop," said the national coach Pascual Momparler. "This is a line-up that knows Alejandro Valverde very well because all of them have been teammates with him at a point in their careers.

"The route shows that it will be complicated to be close to them in the team cars to pass orders easily, particularly once we are in the circuit because it is tricky. So that connection that the riders that will be with Alejandro will be very important. The only rider that hasn't shares teams with Alejandro is Iván García Cortina, who is nowadays our Classic rider. He is very strong and he knows how to move in this kind of races."

Castroviejo will travel to Yorkshire days before because he will take part in the Individual Time Trial and the mixed relay.
