Dmitriy Gruzdev reaches new one-year deal with Astana

Astana Pro Team has announced the contract extension of Dmitriy Gruzdev for another season. Next year will be the ninth season of the riders in the Kazakh team.
The 33-year-old turned pro in 2012 and since then he has started in six grand tours -4 Tour de France, 1 Giro d'Italia and 1 Vuelta a España). Gruzdev has shown to be a good supporter of the leader not only in grand tours but also at the cobblestone classics and one-week races.
"I am happy to continue representing Kazakhstan in Astana Pro Team for one more season," the rider commented. "I think that I spent quite a good year and even though I did not ride any Grand tour, I helped our leaders to get the wins in other races.
"I am ready to continue working hard and to give my 100% for the team leaders. Would like to thank team management for trust in me and to thank our general partner Samruk-Kazyna for support of our team."
Astana's general manager Alexandr Vinokurov is glad to keep relying on the experience of the rider. "Every team is based on a few experienced riders, who hold the team together," he explained. "Dmitriy Gruzdev is one of this kind of riders. He still demonstrates a great motivation and dedication to cycling, always ready to help, but also ready to fight for a good result in the moments, when the team gives him such a possibility.
"I think it is crucial for the team’s success to have a rider like Gruzdev next to the leader, and I am happy that Dmitriy remains in Astana for the next season. More young riders are coming to our team and I am sure that Dmitriy could become a good mentor for them in their first years in professional cycling."
