UAE Team Emirates' Fernando Gaviria has decided to step out of the Colombian selection for the road race of the World Championships of Yorkshire.

Gaviria just finished the Vuelta a España and has told the Colombian Cycling Federation that he doesn't feel well enough to start at the road race of the Championships. "I thought that after the Vuelta a España I would be in good condition to start in the World Championships, which was one of my goals of the season, but in the last days I felt empty and without any strength, and that is why I've decided to step out of the selection and skip the event," said the Colombian.

The rider was set to join Nairo Quintana, Álvaro Hodeg, Sebastián Molano, Sebastián Henao, Esteban Chaves, Daniel Martínez and Carlos Betancur in the event that will be held next Sunday, September 29. "Unfortunately we have received the news that Fernando Gaviria is dropping out of the selection and we respect that decision due to the professional character that the rider has always shown in the national selections," said the president of the Colombian Federation Jorge Mauricio Vargas.

"We will continue with optimism and faith in our selection, which will start only with seven riders because at this moment it is difficult to replace Gaviria."
