Yorkshire 2019
Australia's Rohan Dennis has taken his second individual time trial in a row at the World Championships of Yorkshire. The rider was more than a minute faster than Remco Evenepoel, who stepped on the second place of the podium.
The men's fight against the clock took the riders through a 54-kilometre route between Northallerton and Harrogate. One of the first riders to set a time that could put him on the podium was John Archibald of Great Britain, who completed the course in one hour, eight minutes and 16 seconds.
Then other riders like Lawson Craddock, Alex Dowsett, Patrick Bevin and Filippo Ganna set better times than he did. Soon after, Remco Evenepoel -one of the riders that the public was waiting for- went down the ramp and it was evident that he was going to set one of the best times of the competition.
The Belgian rider stopped the clock at one hour, six minutes and 14 seconds, getting onto the hot seat while the other men finished the course. The new holder of the hour record and one of the favourites for the day was Victor Campenaerts, but luck was not on his side today as he crashed and later on suffered a mechanical problem that forced him to change bikes.
The 2018 ITT world champion Rohan Dennis returned to competition in this event after being out since the incident at the Tour de France -where he abandoned the race in the middle of a stage and without telling anybody of his team. The Australian decided to ride an unbranded bike -reportedly a BMC Time Machine- and from the beginning it was clear that he was on route to another victory.
The rider overtook many riders along the way -including Slovenia's Primoz Roglic- and completed the circuit in one hour, five minutes and five seconds, being more than a minute faster than Evenepoel who had to settle with a silver medal. Ganna completed the podium of the individual time trial.
