Jose Gonçalves is returning to Team Delko Marseille Provence in 2020 after spending the last three seasons in Katusha-Alpecin.

The Portuguese rider was part of the French formation when it was still a continental team in 2013 and 2014. From then he took a step to the ProContinental tier with Caja Rural-Seguros RGA from where he went to the WorldTour level with Katusha-Alpecin.

Gonçalves has achieved victories in the Tour of Turkey, la Poly Normande and the Ster ZLM and was second in 20th stage of the 2015 Vuelta a España and has been twice the time trial champion of Portugal. Now the roleur is ready for a new challenge where he will be able to have a full leadership role.

"After having achieved good results in WordTour over the past three years, and with a national time trial title more recently, I have been able to gain more experience and improve my sporting level," said the rider. "However, the 2019 season was not the best because of a virus; but I tried to do my best. I'm sure I still have a lot to give!

"Today, I am very happy and motivated to return to Team Delko Marseille Provence, of which I was a member in 2013 and 2014. I have to say thank you to the manager of the team for trusting me again. I think with the support of the team, I'll be able to get back on the podium."

Frederic Rostaing, Manager of Delko Marseille Provence welcomes this news. "José Gonçalves is a character rider with potential, which corresponds to our aspirations for the year 2020," he explained. "He rides fast in time trial and has finishing skills, and can pass small climbs very well as evidenced by his victory in the Tour of Turkey.

"He will take a leadership role in one-week stage races and WorldTour events. We are counting on the sporting added value it can bring us!"
