Álvaro Hodeg (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) has taken the victory of the Münsterland Giro by outsprinting Pascal Ackermann and Tim Merlier.

The 14th edition of the German race was 193.3 kilometres long and started when the sun was still shining but this changed midway. The rain started pouring over the peloton and made the race more complicated, which caused that many were left behind during the hilly part of the course.

Corendon-Circus' Mathieu van der Poel tried to make a move but was neutralised by a Deceuninck-Quick-Step that was interested in a bunch sprint. All this movement in the pack caused the end of the escape of the day and the race headed to a fast finale in which the Belgian team did an outstanding job, which was finished by the Colombian sprinter -who outsprinted Bora-hansgrohe's Pascal Ackermann and Corendon-Circus' Tom Merlier.

"We knew the race would be hard on the climbs because many teams didn't have a sprinter here and wanted to break the peloton, but the boys protected me throughout the day," Hodeg explained. "It was very cold, and this made it even more difficult, but I didn't mind racing in the rain, as I like it. Going into the final, I remained focused and asked Florian and Jannik to make sure we'd be in the top 10 positions, and they did a superb job!

"I was confident and just did my sprint, and I'm glad I could repay the team for their hard work. It's always special to win a race and I'm happy I could deliver another one for the Wolfpack as the season nears its conclusion."
