Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Alvaro Hodeg crashed at the last kilometre of the Tour de l'Eurometropole that caused several fractures.

The Colombian took a curve close to the fences and one of his wheels hit them and he ended up on the ground. After the end of the race -which was won by Piet Allegaert (Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise)- images showed the Colombian being taken by ambulance wearing a support collar on his neck.

Hodeg underwent tests in the hospital that revealed several injuries: a left forearm fracture, a right shoulder fracture and two broken ribs. "He will require an operation on his shoulder, which will be performed in Belgium, on Sunday," said Deceuninck-Quick-Step through a statement. "Alvaro will continue to be monitored for signs of concussion overnight, but is in a stable and comfortable condition."

This is the second season of the rider in the Belgian team and he has had an impressive season with seven race victories, including the most recent one at the Münsterland Giro.
