Team Ineos displayed great teamwork in the last kilometres of the Gran Piemonte and Egan Bernal took the victory of the race.

The Italian competition was 183 kilometres long and took the peloton between Aglie and the Santuario di Oropa over a route that featured two climbs in the last 25 kilometres, including the heavy finale leading to the church. The good work of Ineos got to its highest point in the last kilometres of the race when Ivan Sosa set the rhythm of a very reduced group that included his teammate Bernal and others like Emanuel Buchmann (Bora-hansgrohe), Nans Peters (AG2R La Mondiale) and Davide Villella (Astana).

That pace left behind the competitors and Bernal then made the move that gave him a solo victory of the Italian race. Sosa crossed the finish line six seconds behind him and Nans did it at eight seconds of the 2019 Tour de France winner, completing the final podium.

"I'm very happy," said Bernal at the end of the stage. "I woke up this morning with the desire to do a good race but winning is always difficult.

"It's great to finally win in Italy and a one day race for the first time. In leading me to the climb, Ivan Sosa showed that he was probably the strongest today. We've done a great job."
