Dan McLay took the victory of the second stage at the Gree-Tour of Guangxi, which is his first win in a WorldTour race.

McLay's teammate Sep Vanmarcke launched a late attack with the objective of taking the stage win, but when the peloton caught him, the Briton seemed his chance to fight for the victory. The rider timed his sprint perfectly and crossed the finish line ahead of Bora-hansgrohe's Pascal Ackermann and Mitchelton-Scott's Matteo Trentin.

"It's always a good feeling to win," said McLay. "Winning doesn't happen often for most people in cycling, so when it does, it's important to soak it up and enjoy every moment of it.

"I stayed around Julius (van den Berg) and Moreno (Hofland), but on such big roads, there is a lot of movement. I just took my own way and then hit out when it opened up. Thankfully I had the power to take it to the line."

With the second place on the second stage of the Chinese race, Ackermann took the lead of the General Classification.
