Fernando Gaviria has taken the victory of the fifth stage at the Tour of Guangxi, his second win in this edition of the race.

The route of the stage took the riders through 212.2 kilometres and features four classified climbs, the last one at almost 40 kilometres from the finish. The escape of the day was formed by our riders, but it finished during the last ascent of the day.

There were several attacks on that climb, but the peloton managed to repel them all and force a fast finale. UAE-Team Emirates did a good job for Gaviria and Oliviero Troia was the last lead-out man, leaving him to launch his final sprint at 150 metres from the finish line.

The Colombian crossed the line just ahead of Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) and Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) and took the 29th victory for UAE-Team Emirates in 2019. "My teammates had a huge part to play in this victory," he explained at the end of the day.

"I'm very happy with my performance today: It's never easy, at the end of the season racing in races over 200 km as happened today. I felt good all day long, and I kept climbing hard trying to stay close to the main group and then caught back up to the leaders thanks to the support of the team. In the sprint, I was able to start from a good position and had great legs so I could pull off the win."
