Corendon-Circus' Stijn Devolder has announced his retirement at the end of the 2019 season.

The 40-year old and two-time winner of the Ronde van Vlaanderen -Tour of Flanders- will hang the bike at the end of the current season. "I made the decision last summer," said the rider to the Belgian news agency Belga. "The age is starting to bother me."

The Belgian has a palmares that also includes two overall wins of the Tour of Belgium, the Tour of Austria, the Volta ao Algarve and the road race of the National Championships three times. Devolder also achieved top-five places in the General Classification of the Tour de Suisse, the Driedaagse De Panne-Koksijde and the Eneco Tour.

Devolder had planned to stop with his career in 2018 but extended his stay in the Dutch team when he was offered the chance of being one of the helpers of Mathieu van der Poel. "That's why I decided to continue for another year," he explained. "I am satisfied with my career and the results I have achieved."
