Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France, showed his disappointment with Romain Bardet's decision of skipping the 2020 French race.

During a talk with the show 'Tout le Sport' in the television broadcaster France 3, Prudhomme commented about his disappointment on the announcement that Bardet did about his calendar for 2020. The French rider will skip the Tour de France and focus on his Giro d'Italia debut, the Olympic Games and the World Championships.

"First of all, he had the elegance of to call me, true to what he is, a well-educated young man and I wish him the best," he said. "His decision to not come doesn't change the esteem that we have for him and we expect him firmly in 2021.

"He had a bad summer and it is understandable that you want something else, particularly after he achieved two podiums in the Tour, the second and the third places. I wish him the best for 2020, of course. He will also compete in the Vuelta a España."
