Team Ineos' Egan Bernal has shown his anger about an unauthorized biography that has been published in Colombia on social media.
The winner of the 2019 Tour de France discovered the existence of this book through a tweet from the author of the biography, Mauricio Silva. The Colombian journalist -director of the magazine Bocas and gastronomic columnist of the newspaper El Tiempo- presented the book through social media.
"After a year of investigation and writing, I present to you my new book: 'Egan, the predestined champion', the amazing life and work of the most recent winner of the Tour de France: Egan Bernal," Silva wrote in a tweet. "Truthfully, I found a story that is both passionate and incredible. I hope you like it."
The Colombian rider answered with annoyance to this publication. "Mr Silva, I personally don't think it's good that you take advantage of my image and my name for your benefit without even telling us that you were working on a book named 'Egan'," Bernal wrote. "Only now I find this out and I think it is very wrong."
The journalist answered this tweet explaining to Bernal all the times that he tried to contact him to let him know about the book. "I am very sorry you feel this way," Silva explained. "But it was never my intention to upset you, mostly because through chat -the only way of communication that you and me have had and that you asked for- I told you about the writing of this text (on September 23 and 29) and the date of publishing (October 10 of this year) in which I said: 'It will be published at the end of November with the Random editorial.'
"But beyond every misunderstanding, champion, you need to know that I didn't do or have done anything different than a responsible and passionate journalistic text, which is a clear tribute. I hope you can read the book and then you will understand my real motivations. I am sorry again if I caused you any annoyance and I reaffirm my deep admiration for you."
The rider hasn't commented on this explanation.
