Belgian rider Sofie De Vuyst has taken the decision of asking for the testing of the B-Sample after she was notified of a positive test.

The rider was notified of a positive result of a test on an out-of-competition sample that was taken on September 18, just days before the road race of the World Championships of Yorkshire. The result of the test is for exogenous steroids, but the Belgian insists on her innocence.

"We have taken the decision to have the B-sample tested," confirmed the rider's partner and former professional cyclist Bart De Clercq to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. "However, we don't expect too much from it ourselves. The chance of another outcome is small, but we want to use all means to prove Sofie's innocence.

"After all, we are full of questions. How did she have a positive doping test? Are contaminated food supplements to blame? However, we did everything to always work with reliable products. How did we end up in this trouble? We are going to do everything to prove her innocence. We will try to disentangle all of this in silence, no matter how difficult it is."

De Vuyst just finished a season in which she took the victory of the Brabantse Pijl and finished in the second position of La Classique Morbihan and the Flanders Ladies Classic. "Sofie feels super bad and we try to stay out of the spotlight as much as possible," De Clercq continued. "We still don't know when we're receiving the result of the B-test.

"The fact is that, fortunately, we don't have any experience with all these things. We would like to know as soon as possible if that test is also positive. Our search for the unknown continues."
