Ten Swiss riders have been on parts of the course of the World Championships of 2020 that will be held in Martigny.

The Swiss cyclists got together to do recon on certain parts of the course, including the climb of the Petite Forclaz. With less than 300 days to go, they and some members of the organisation went on a training ride of the Championships of 2020.

"Competing at home is an exceptional opportunity," said Marcello Albasini, Swiss Cycling Coach. "We want to get there in the best conditions possible to achieve a good result. The enthusiasm of the spectators will be an additional motivation. The climb up the Petite Forclaz is really difficult. A selection will be made there, but the riders will then have to push to the finish line in Martigny."

CCC Team's Michael Schär was part of the group of riders that tackled the course. "It's a very beautiful parcours, really difficult," he mentioned. "With the difference in altitude on the climb to the Petite Forclaz, it won't be very fast. The race will be very interesting and open. The leaders will be isolated early on and us Swiss riders we will have opportunities to shine. It is a great source of pride to host these World Championships in Switzerland."

"I know the route very well," added Groupama-FDJ's Sebastien Reichenbach. "It was important for me to come with the national team and look forward to next year. The final part of the race will be very selective. I don't remember seeing such a challenging parcours in a World Championship.

"The scenario will be unique, with a quick selection in the early stages of the race and then a big show for the finale. Taking part in the World Championships at home will also give us an extra motivation. It will be amazing to compete in front of my family, where I was born, on the roads I used to come home from school as a child."

Schär and Reichenbach were joined in the recon by Matteo Badilatti, Mathias Frank, Kilian Frankiny, Enrico Gasparotto, Fabian Lienhard, Simon Pellaud, Patrick Schelling and Danilo Wyss.
