UAE-Team Emirates' Fabio Aru is set to start at the upcoming edition of the Tour Colombia 2.1.

The winner of the Vuelta a España in 2015 has also reached a podium position in the Giro d'Italia in the same year. The Italian will be at the start line of the South American race for the first time ever and has decided to include the race as part of his preparation for his main goals in the upcoming season.

Aru will continue building up his shape after a difficult season in which he had to undergo surgery in the iliac artery of the left leg because he was suffering from a constriction that was impairing his power at racing. The rider thinks he can make a full recovery and return to the levels that saw him fighting for grand tours.

UAE-Team Emirates for the race will also include names like Camilo Ardila, Cristian Camilo Muñoz, Sergio Luis Henao and Sebastián Molano, who will be riding in home roads as the race will be several days in the city of Paipa, where he is from. Other riders that have been confirmed for the race -which will be held between the 11th and the 16th from February- include Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Julian Alaphilippe and Bob Jungels.
