Team Ineos' Chris Froome has announced that he will return to competition for the UAE Tour, which will be held between February 23 and 29.

The four-time Tour de France winner suffered a crash during the time trial recon at the 2019 Criterium du Dauphine last June that left him with fractures in the right femur, the elbow, the ribs and the neck. Although he rode the time trial at the Saitama Criterium in October 2019, this will be the first race that the Briton will face after the serious accident.

"I’m really excited about getting back to racing at the UAE Tour," said Froome through a message posted in social media. "I’ve come off a good block of training in Gran Canaria and look forward to taking the next step in my recovery and getting back to full strength."

Froome -who has won the three grand tours- will be joined in the race by other strong riders that can also fight for the overall victory of the race. Some confirmed cyclist to take part in the race include Rohan Dennis (Ineos), Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo), Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott), Wout Poels (Bahrain McLaren) and Ilnur Zakarin (CCC Team).

The seven-stage race will also include plenty of possibilities in bunch finishes and that's why riders like Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal), Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma), Sam Bennett (Deceuninck-Quick-Step), Pascal Ackermann (Bora-hansgrohe) and Arnaud Demare (Groupama FDJ), will also be at the start line in Zabeel Park.
