Julian Alaphilippe and Remco Evenepoel are set to lead Deceuninck-Quick-Step in the first race of their season: the Vuelta a San Juan.

Since 2017, the Belgian team has won nine stages with four different riders, including Alaphilippe, who won two times in the 2019 edition of the race and finished in the second position of the overall classification. Last edition was also memorable because of Evenepoel's feat of finishing in the ninth position in the General Classification and the best young rider's jersey.

The Argentinean race will be held between the 26th of January and the second of February and its route will include a 15-kilometre individual time trial in Dique Punta Negra and a long climb to Alto Colorado that will take the riders to an altitude of 2565 metros.

The race will also mark the return of Alvaro Hodeg, who had a crash at the Tour de l'Eurometropole in 2019that finished his season. "It's the classic Vuelta a San Juan parcours, one that will present plenty of opportunities to the sprinters, and we hope Alvaro will be one of those in the mix for victory on the flat," said sports director Davide Bramati.

"We're not saying that we are going for the GC, but in Julian and Remco we have two riders who did good in the overall classification last year and that makes us confident they will get again good results. We won many times in Argentina and we don't want to break this beautiful tradition this year, when we come to the start with a strong squad capable of fighting for stage victories regardless of the terrain."

Deceuninck-Quick-Step's roster for the 2019 Vuelta a San Juan (January 26-February 2):

Julian Alaphilippe
Remco Evenepoel
Alvaro Hodeg
Pieter Serry
Zdenek Stybar
Bert Van Lerberghe
