Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Zdenek Stybar has taken the victory of the penultimate stage at the Vuelta a San Juan.
The former cyclocross champion made a surprise attack in the last kilometre of the sixth stage at the South American race, which managed to leave the sprinters behind and gave him the victory of the day. Sebastián Molano (UAE Team Emirates) and Rudy Barbier (Israel Cycling Academy) crossed the finish line in the second and third places, respectively.
"Before the start, we were training here and we thought about doing something different, so in the end we decided to anticipate the sprint," said Stybar. "I'm glad that the team had confidence in me and I could pull it off.
"It's my first time here in Argentina and at the beginning of the season you never know what your condition is, so this win is really nice and gives me a big morale-boost. Now we have one more stage and we are motivated to end on a high note, trying with Alvaro (Hodeg) for the victory and securing Remco's (Evenepoel) jersey."
