Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) has won the Queen Stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana and is the virtual winner of the race.
The escape of the day was formed by a group of six riders of which Greg Van Avermaert, Nathan Van Hooydonck (CCC Team), Tim Declercq (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) and Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-McLaren) were the last survivors. The escapees were caught at the first slopes of the final ascent -which was of the first category and was climbed for the first time ever in competition- and soon after Pogacar was the first of the favourites to make a move.
The Slovenian showed to have outstanding legs and created a gap that he managed to maintain until the end, despite the efforts of riders like Wout Poels, Tao Geoghegan Hart, Dan Martin and Jack Haig, who completed the top five of the day.
Pogacar climbed to the top of the General Classification with one stage to go, the city circuit of Valencia that will be once again in favour of the fast riders and in which Dylan Groenewegen will attempt to get a third victory and Fabio Jakobsen will try to improve from the two second places he has achieved in the current edition of the race.
