UAE Team Emirates' Tadej Pogacar has shown an outstanding performance at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana by taking a solo victory in the Queen Stage.
The 21-year-old attacked on the challenging last climb of the day -that included gradients above 10%- with three kilometres to go after his teammate Jan Poland helped him in its first stretch. The rider crossed the finish line by himself, claiming the victory of the stage and taking the virtual win of the race with one stage to go.
"Today was a really hard day, so we decided to work on the front near the end to get me in the perfect position approaching the climb," said Pogacar. "Jan made a really hard pull on the final climb and when he stopped I accelerated and went full gas until the end.
"I attacked on the steepest part of the climb as that's where I was feeling good. It's really something special and really satisfying after all the work done in the winter."
