UAE Team Emirates' Tadej Pogacar has shown his good shape at the start of the season by winning the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, which makes him dream for the rest of the season.

Pogacar took the victories of the two climbing stages of the Spanish race and managed to defend his GC lead until the end, becoming the youngest winner in the new era of the race. The rider is pleased with his shape, and he talked about it to the media -including CyclingPub.com- after the end of the competition.

Every stage of the race finished within the fastest expected schedule, which means that the peloton reached a fast speed each of the days of the competition. "It was high pace every day and I think that the fact that I could keep up it is a good sign that I'm in good shape now," said the Slovenian rider.

The Queen stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana featured a newly discovered last climb to the Sierra de Bernia, a first category ascent in which Pogacar was once again the strongest rider. "It was a really hard climb," the rider commented. "I didn't know it, I didn't recon it by bike before, I just saw it on video and in the car."

The rider knows that he is one of the most promising riders of the professional peloton, but he doesn't want to get ahead of himself in his career. "It is still a long way to go, but for sure I will try to do my best every time and in every race," the Slovenian explained. "I want to keep improving."

It is very likely that the rider will be a teammate of Primoz Roglic for the Olympics of Tokyo 2020, and he talked about his relationship with the Jumbo-Visma rider off and on the bike. "With Primoz we understand each other really well but on the bike we need to compete against each other," he added.

Now the rider looks forward to continuing his season. "Next I will ride the UAE Tour, then Paris-Nice, Milano-Sanremo, Basque Country and then the Tour and Olympics," Pogacar affirmed.
