Caja Rural-Seguros RGA's Gonzalo Serrano has taken the win at the second stage of the Vuelta a Andalucia/Ruta del Sol.

The 25-year-old -who already topped the mountains classification at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana- showed once again his climbing talents at the end of the second day of the Spanish competition. Bahrain McLaren, Movistar and Astana worked hard to maintain control of the race and Serrano attacked in the last 300 metres of the mountain finish, crossing the finish line ahead of Juan José Lobato (Fundacion Euskadi) and Dylan Teuns (Bahrain McLaren).

"It was a day that suited me very well," said the rider at the end of the stage. "Yesterday I tried to keep mi strength thinking about today's stage, since it was the route that best suited my characteristics, and we had studied it in detail. Normally it does not come out but today luckily we have finished it off perfectly. We had two options: with me or with Orluis. The last stronghold has been climbed, I have seen myself with good legs and I wanted to try it.

"I think I'm not aware yet, I don't believe it. My first victory as a professional and in a race of the level of Andalusia. It is difficult to assimilate it. Right now, both the team and myself, we are very well and the goal is to continue adding."

Clement Venturini (AG2R La Mondiale) and Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott) completed the top five of the day. Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) retained his lead in the General Classification, where he sits six seconds ahead of Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Merida) and 23 seconds ahead of Teuns.
