Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) has taken his second victory at the 2020 Vuelta a Andalucia/Ruta del Sol in a hectic finish.
The third stage of the Spanish race was held over a 176.9-kilometre route that featured two climbs of the second category and two of the first category. The escape of the day included names like Enric Mas, Silvan Dillier, Louis Vervaeke, Floris De Tier and Damiano Caruso, among others.
The front group got smaller throughout the race due to the heavy climbs, but it got together again after the last classified climb. With three kilometres to go, the reduced peloton caught the escapees and continued on the rolling finish.
Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott) and Dylan Teuns (Bahrain McLaren) attacked in the last kilometre but just before the last metres, they didn't take the turn to the finish line and lost their advantage. While they corrected their way, Jakob Fuglsang attacked and took the victory of the stage, crossing the finish line just ahead of Pello Bilbao (Bahrain McLaren).
Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates), Ion Izagirre (Astana) and Marc Soler (Movistar) completed the top five of the day. With this victory, Fuglsang extended his lead in the General Classification.
