Mitchelton-Scott's Jack Haig has taken the victory at the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Andalucia/Ruta del Sol. The Australian crossed the finish line ahead of Jakob Fuglsang and Mikel Landa.
The fourth day of competition in Andalucia took the riders through a 125-kilometre route that included two climbs of the third category and one of the first category 20 kilometres before the finish line. The escape of the day was formed early and included names like Silvan Dillier, Lennard Hofstede, Rui Oiveira, and Angel Madrazo, among others.
The breakaway was finished by the pace of the favourites at the last climb of the day and with 25 kilometres to go, GC leader Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) increased the pace and build a little gap that was neutralised by the chasers just a few kilometres later. The new front group included strong riders like Brandon McNulty, Ion Izagirre, Fuglsang and Jack Haig while Marc Soler followed them closely.
At the last part of the climb only Haig, Fuglsang and Landa remained in front and despite the efforts of the Australian to get away, the other two managed to stay at his wheel at all times. The trio arrived together to the last kilometre and the rider of Mitchelton-Scott was the fastest at the sprint, taking the win that he couldn't get the day before after he and Dylan Teuns missed the last corner of the course before the last metres of the stage.
