Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) has taken the overall win of the Vuelta a Andalucia/Ruta del Sol after setting the second best time at the closing individual time trial. Jack Haig and Mikel Landa completed the final podium of the race.

The Spanish race closed with a 13-kilometre individual time trial in Mijas, which had the potential of causing differences for the final podium. Mitchelton-Scott's Alexander Edmondson was one of the first riders to set a very competitive time by stopping the clock in 17 minutes and 59 seconds.

The Australian remained in the hot seat for a long time until Bahrain McLaren's Dylan Teuns finished his participation in the fight against the clock with a time of 17 minutes and 57 seconds, achieving the best time of the day -which also allowed him to climb one spot in the General Classification to the fifth place.

The main fight of the day was set to be between Jack Haig (Mitchelton-Scott), Mikel Landa (Bahrain McLaren) and Ion Izagirre (Astana), who were attempting to be at the final podium. The winner of this battle was the Australian -who set a time 24 seconds slower than Teuns and was enough for him to climb to the second overall position.

Landa was almost one minute slower than his teammate and Izagirre was only 17 seconds slower than the time of Teuns, but this was not enough for him to finish on the top three of the race. The Spaniard of Bahrain McLaren stepped on the third spot of the final podium and Jakob Fuglsang completed the course with the same time as Teuns, which confirmed his second title in a row at the Vuelta a Andalucia.
