Mitchelton-Scott's Adam Yates has won the third stage of the UAE Tour by beating the competition during the climb of the Jebel Hafeet.

The third stage of the Emirate race was 184 kilometres long and featured the already iconic Jebel Hafeet but the route before was all flat before the final climb of the day. The escape of the day was formed by four riders and included names like Victor Campenaerts and Jasper De Buyst.

The adventure of the men was over just before the start of the climb due to the pace set by teams like CCC Team and UAE Team Emirates. Just before the toughest part of the ascent, Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) attacked and created a gap with the rest while riders like Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) and Chris Froome were left behind.

Alexey Lutsenko (Astana), David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) and Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) went on to chase Yates and only the Slovenian resisted the inclination of the road. Although in some moments it looked like Pogacar was getting closer to the Briton, he crossed the finish line on his own, more than a minute ahead of the young rider.

Lutsenko, Gaudu and Rafal Majka (Bora-hansgrohe) completed the top five of the day. Yates also took the lead of the General Classification.
