The remainder of the UAE Tour has been cancelled as result of the coronavirus, with several new cases in the country reported on Thursday.

Dutch team Jumbo-Visma broke the news on Twitter, saying that it had been informed of the decision to cancel the remaining two stages of the Middle Eastern race.

"We have taken note of the cancellation of the UAE Tour due to the occurence of the coronavirus. We wish all the people involved the very best, awaiting further developments," the team wrote.

In addition, it was reported that all riders and staff are to be tested and have to remain in their hotel rooms for the time being.

Adam Yates currently leads the race's overall standings and was already likely to secure the overall victory as the last two stages are both suitable for sprinters.

The international health scare has also raised questions regarding upcoming Italian races such as Milano-Sanremo and Tirreno-Adriatico.
