Iván García Cortina (Bahrain-McLaren) has sprinted to victory at the third stage of Paris-Nice, beating Peter Sagan and Andrea Pasqualon.

The third stage of the French race was again rainy and windy and took the peloton over a 214-kilometre rolling route that featured one climb of the third category but that was bound to finish in a bunch sprint. Four kilometres after the start Circus-Wanty Gobert-Tormans' Tom Devriendt escaped by himself and created a gap of more than seven minutes with the pack.

With 26 kilometres to go, the Belgian rider was caught by the pack and the peloton continued riding fast. Deceuninck-Quick-Step tried several times to accelerate and create cuts in the pack but it didn't happen.

The change of speed caused some chaos in the pack that ended up causing a crash with six kilometres to go and that involved riders like Bryan Coquard, Niki Terpstra and Guillaume Boivin. The peloton continued with a lot of movement and there was a crash in the last metres that involved one of the favourites of the day: Sam Bennett.

Bahrain McLaren's Ivan Garcia Cortina launched a strong sprint from early and managed to take an advantage big enough to take the day's victory. Peter Sagan (Bora-hansgrohe) and Andrea Pasqualon (Circus-Wanty Gobert) crossed the finish line in the second and third positions respectively.

Max Schachmann (Bora-hansgrohe) maintains the lead of the General Classification.
