Sam Bennett has withdrawn from Paris-Nice due to the injuries he suffered at the end of the third stage of the competition.

The third stage of the French race was not good for the rider as he was pushed against the barriers by Israel Start-Up Nation's Hugo Hoffstetter -which finished his hopes to get the day's win- and later on he was fined for pushing Nairo Quintana (Arkea Samsic) when the peloton was heading to the bunch sprint.

Although the rider didn't sustain any fractures, he suffered some injuries that stopped him from continuing in the race. "I lost some skin and needed those stitches, because when I went into the barrier, I hit the metal part, but luckily, everything else seems pretty ok," said Bennett after he was attended by the team's doctors.

"In the beginning, as I was lying on the road and there was a bit of shock, as I had no idea how serious it was, but it’s a good thing nothing is broken."

Although the Irish national champion intended to continue racing, just before the start of the individual time trial it was decided that he will be returning home. "Following his crash yesterday, Sam Bennett has again been assessed by our medical team and it has been decided that he will not take to the start of Paris-Nice stage 4 today, and he is instead travelling home. We wish Sam a speedy recovery!," wrote Deceuninck-Quick-Step in social media.
