UAE-Team Emirates' Fernando Gaviria has received a negative test result for coronavirus and is set to return home.

The Colombian sprinter was one of the people that tested positive for Covid-19 virus after the cancellation of the UAE Tour. The Emirati race was stopped after its fifth stage and everyone involved was quarantined for several days -and even weeks in some cases- to avoid the spread of the virus.

After many rumours, Gaviria confirmed through an Instagram video that he was one of the infected riders and was kept in the country until his complete recovery. One day after it was confirmed that his teammate and friend Max Richeze has also recovered from the illness, the Colombian shared the news on social media.

"I'd like to thank all the medical team that took care of me in the United Arab Emirates for their excellent work and dedication, as well to every one who has supported me during this period of illness and recovery," he commented. "The latest tests done to me gave a negative result and the doctors discharged me from the hospital.

"I'll now focus on returning home and reunite with my family. I hope and wish that this extraordinary situation is over soon, so we can all return to normality."
