Adriatica Ionica has cancelled its race for 2020 due to the Covid-19 crisis but promises a big return for next year.

The Italian race was set to happen between the 14th and the 18th of June but has joined the list of events that have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The organizing committee of the race, led by former World Champion Moreno Argentin, has decided to call it off.

"There is no point in waiting for some more weeks," the former rider explained. "Right now we can't see a decent chance to organize the event in a suitable environment, either for the safety of public and athletes and for the great uncertainty due to the outbreak, which will result in a hard and longer economic crisis.

"Theoretically we could ask for a new date in the last quarter of the year, but unlikely it would be a good choice. Local authorities and our partner companies have other priorities at the moment. Much better to focusing on a new start in 2021, albeit aware that after the coronavirus nothing will be like before, and cycling will not be an exception."

The 2021 edition of the race will be its third and it the two before it has started to get recognition for its fast and high mountain routes mixed with cobbled and dirt paths. The first edition of the race was won by Ivan Sosa and the second by Mark Padun.
