The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has announced the dates of the 2020 Tour de France and left the Vuelta a España as the last grand tour of the season.

The French grand tour had to get new dates after the French government extended the public events ban until mid-July. While it will take place between the 29th of August and the 20th of September, the Giro d'Italia was announced to be held after the World Championships, the Spanish grand tour was confirmed to be the last grand tour of the season.

"We would like to thank ASO and the UCI for its celerity to fit the Tour de France into this new cycling season calendar," said La Vuelta director Javier Guillén. "Following the UCI statement, which clarifies that the World Tour season will not start before first of August, we can keep working.

"We are talking with all the cycling parties to fit all the races between now and the end of the year. We don't know yet what the exact dates of La Vuelta will be, but the big picture is clearer, and we hope and wish that before May 15th we'll be able to have the final calendar resolved."
