Spanish media has assured that the start of the 2020 Vuelta a España will be in Spain and not in the Netherlands as it was planned.

Although the dates of this year's edition of the Spanish grand tour are still unknown, the new spot of the race in the calendar would force it to make some significant changes. The race was set to start on the 14th of August in Utrecht, the Netherlands, but the UCI decided that it will be the last grand tour of the year, which would mean that it will take place almost at the end of the fall.

The weather conditions at that time of the year are not ideal in the north of Europe, while they can be better at the south. According to the Basque newspaper El Diario Vasco, the race will start in the town of Irun.

The Spanish newspaper even puts a date to the start of the Vuelta: October 24. And this means the start of the Vuelta in Utrecht will have to be moved to 2022 -it was already announced that it will begin in Burgos in 2021- which will actually suit the Dutch organisation as in that year the city will celebrate its 900 anniversary.
