Team Ineos' Rohan Dennis has taken his second victory at the Digital Swiss 5 by winning the closing race of the event.
The closing stage of the event organised by the Tour de Suisse, Velon and the virtual cycling platform Rouvy was 36 kilometres long that included a 15-kilometre climbing stretch at the start towards the top of the Lukmanier Pass and after a descent, the road kicked up again for the final four kilometres.
The start list of the day included the names of strong riders like Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), Bauke Mollema, Vincenzo Nibali (Trek-Segafredo) and Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick-Step), among others. Max Schachmann (Bora-hansgrohe) and Ilnur Zakarin (CCC Team) attacked early, but they were soon caught by Dennis.
From then on, the Australian was in TT mode and despite the efforts of the other riders, he crossed the finish line in the first position. Sunweb's Nicolas Roche tried until the last moment to catch the rider of Ineos, and he got very close in the last kilometre, but it was not enough to get the victory, and he had to settle with the second place.
Jumbo-Visma's Jonas Vingegaard, Sunweb's Chris Hamilton and Schachmann completed the top-five of the day. This is the second victory for Dennis after he also took the win on the first race of the virtual event.
