Bahrain-McLaren and the Italian National team have won the fourth stage of the virtual Giro d'Italia. Astana Pro Team and Trek-Segafredo continue on the lead of the General Classifications of the races.

The fourth stage of the virtual competition was the first on a mountainous course and took the riders through a 25.9-kilometre long route with 930 m vertical elevation. Fred Wright and Rafa Valls represented Bahrain-Merida in the stage and took the victory by finishing with a combined time of 1 hour, 56 minutes and 55 seconds, being nine minutes and 31 seconds faster that Astana's Gorka Izagirre and Alexander Aranburu.

Despite this result, the Kazakh team remains in the lead of the General Classification of the race with an 18 minutes and 33 seconds lead over Bahrain-McLaren and a 20 minutes and 53 seconds lead over the Italian National team -represented by Alberto Bettiol and Alessandro Fancellu.

In the Pink Race, Soraya Paladin and Marta Cavalli took the victory for the Italian National team with a combined time of two hours, 17 minutes and 15 seconds. Trek-Segafredo -with Elisa Longo Borghini and Lizzie Deignan, finished in the second position at five minutes and four seconds from the winners but which was enough to retain the Maglia Rosa.

The virtual competition will continue on the second of May with a stage between Pinzolo and Laghi di Cancano over a 30-kilometre route that has a vertical elevation of 710 metres.
