RCS Sport, organisers of the Giro d'Italia, Strade Biache, Milano-Sanremo, Tirreno-Adriatico and Il Lombardia, has stated that some of its proposals for the new calendar were not listened but it is glad the season is ready to restart.

The Italian Grand Tour is set to be held from the third to the 25th of October and it will clash with races like Liege-Bastogne-Liege (October 4), the Amstel Gold Race (October 10), the Tour of Flanders (October 18), la Vuelta a España (October 20-November 11) and its last stage will be on the same day as Paris-Roubaix. Milano-Sanremo will coincide with the Tour de Pologne (October 25), Tirreno-Adriatico (September 7-14) with the Tour de France and Il Lombardia (October 31) with the Spanish Grand Tour.

"The publication of the calendar by the UCI is an important step forward that certainly helps all the stakeholders involved to reprogram the season," said RCS Sport through a statement. "It is the result of an unparalleled extensive work involving the institutions, organizations, teams and others who, in their various capacities, have contributed to this difficult choice.

"In order to save and safeguard the important heritage of cycling races, some sacrifices had to be made considering the short time span within which we could include all the season’s races. We made a number of alternative proposals which, in our opinion, would have resulted in reduced overlaps among races in the calendar. These proposals have not been adopted. However, we believe this result is important for the restart, especially at this time, given the dramatic health situation that is affecting all areas of our lives."
