Former rider Alberto Contador has talked about young talent Remco Evenepoel, and he showed the admiration he already has for him.

The winner of all three grand tours talked about the 20-year-old rider of Deceuninck-Quick-Step in a talk with Belgian broadcaster Sporza. "I haven't seen that much talent in my life," said the Spaniard. "He does amazing things. He has won the Clasica San Sebastian, the time trial at the European Championships, the Volta ao Algarve... we don't have enough time to talk about all his victories.

"He is a type of cyclist that we haven't seen before. Eddy Merckx is of course the biggest, but those were other times. Now cyclists are more specialised. One day I had a coffee with Remco and he told me about data that he achieved in 20 minutes of training. And I said 'if that is true, you will fight for grand tours.'"

Contador thinks the Belgian rider can be one of the favourites for the upcoming edition of the Giro d'Italia -which will be held between the third and the 25th of October. "I am convinced he is one of the big favourites for the race," the Spaniard affirmed. "His numbers show that he can fight for the win, but we still have to see how he develops day by day. One test of 20 minutes is not the same as a three-week competition. Can he be just as strong during the third week?"
