The President of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) David Lappartient has shown his concerns about the survival of all the teams before the end of the season.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit hard the world of sports since the calendar was suspended at the end of February. Many teams have been struggling financially due to the lack of racing, and they have had to suspend the contracts of part of the staff and the salaries of the riders have been drastically reduced.

Formations like CCC Team, Bahrain-Merida, Mitchelton-Scott and Lotto-Soudal have had to take measures to protect themselves economically. And despite there is a clear blueprint about what the season will look like, with a start in August, it is still uncertain if racing will return because it will all depend on the coronavirus crisis.

"We know that there are three, four, five teams with more problems than other teams," said Lappartient to Dutch news agency ANP. "We hope they all reach the end of the season."

And the president of the cycling governing body is also worried about the challenges that the UCI will have to face in the future. "Our union is also going through a crisis that it has not seen since the Second World War."
