Deceuninck-Quick-Step's Remco Evenepoel continues training with the Giro d'Italia as his main objective for 2020.

The Belgian young talent has not changed the main goal of his season, and he is preparing for the Italian grand tour among words that name him as one of the favourites for the overall classification -including those of former rider Alberto Contador. "Fighting for the final win, those are big words," said Evenepoel to Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.

"But I feel good, I'll definitely fight for the Pink Jersey. Competing for it until the last day must be so nice. We already believe in it."

The winner of the 2019 Clasica de San Sebastian thinks this is the right year to debut in a grand tour. "The Giro has been a big goal for me since last winter," he explained. "The new calendar made it difficult to make choices, I'll miss Liege-Bastogne-Liege for the Giro. But I'm sure it is the best choice. The Giro d'Italia is an ideal race to make progress.

"I want my first big race to be something special. I have done a few small tests at home and based on that, I notice that I've made progress. I have become more powerful. It is now up to me to be in top shape at the right time. I want to make it an unforgettable Giro."
