The Colombian Cycling Federation has announced a pre-selection of riders to be part of the Colombia Andina team at the 2020 Tour de l'Avenir.

The race is known for being a showcase for the young talents as it is for the Under 23 peloton. Riders like Miguel Indurain, Bauke Mollema, Nairo Quintana, Esteban Chaves, Warren Barguil, Miguel Angel Lopez, Egan Bernal and Tadej Pogacar have won the race in the past, which is the main reason for its fame and prestige.

The Tour de l'Avenir will be shorter in 2020 due to the challenges presented to the new calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic and will have only five stages. The race will be held between the 14th and the 19th of August.

The Colombian national coach Carlos Mario Jaramillo has made a preselection of eight riders for the race, including two that are already in the WorldTour: Andres Camilo Ardila (UAE Team Emirates) and Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain McLaren).

The team Colombia Andina also has in its preselection the U23 national champion Daniel Arroyave, Rafael Pineda (UAE Team Colombia), Jhojan Garcia, Juan Fernando Calle (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), Jesus David Peña and Diego Camargo (Colombia Tierra de Atletas).

Most of the stages of the revamped parcours of the Tour de l'Avenir include climbs, which will favour the riders of the South American country that are mostly specialized in this terrain.
