The 2020 Road World Championships are confirmed to be taken place in Aigle-Martigny, Switzerland, from the 20th to the 27th of September.

The organising committee of the event has examined the health conditions and restrictions implemented by the Federal Council, and in agreement with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UIC), the Cantons of Valais and the communes of Aigle and Martigny, it has decided to continue with the preparations for it to be held on its original dates.

"Over the last few months, we have not stopped working on the organisation of the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny," said Gregory Devaud and Alexandre Debond, Co-Presidents of the organising committee. "Today, we are continuing to prepare for our event. We are very grateful for the trust from the UCI, local authorities, our sponsors, the huge number of volunteers that have registered and are very pleased about our cycling fans passion for our race and its exceptional circuit.

"We need to remain cautious in view of the world health situation but the organisation of the Swiss Road Championships on 22 August 2020 on our circuit is a strong sign that will validate our approach and help us fine-tune our procedures. Our thoughts go out especially to the Foire du Valais which cannot be held this year, but we will do our best to fly the flag high for our culture."

The parcours of the road races of the 2020 World Championships are suitable for the climbers and the Men's Elite category will face a 143-kilometre route while the Women's Elite Category will ride over a 105-kilometre course.

"We are pleased that the improvement of the health situation will hopefully allow the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny to go ahead," explained Patrick Hunger, Co-President of Swiss Cycling Management Board. "Various measures to promote Swiss Cycling at this event have already been taken. This positive development will also give our riders the chance to compete in the UCI Road World Championships in front of their public. We can hardly think of a better objective for them during this unusual season.

"The Swiss Championships in Aigle and Martigny in August will give us a foretaste of the UCI Road World Championships. It will also be the opportunity for Swiss riders to display their skills with a view to being selected. In this context, the Swiss Road Championships promise to be especially attractive in all categories."
