Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) has taken the title of the Slovenian time trial at the national championships for the second time in a row.

The 21-year-old completed the 15.7-kilometre course in 31 minutes and ten seconds. The rolling route was suitable for the rider, who seemed also unaffected by the rain that hit hard throughout the day.

This victory came for the rider exactly one week after he finished in second place in the road race of the championships. Then, he fought the last kilometres against Jumbo-Visma's Primoz Roglic, but the winner of the 2019 Vuelta a España was stronger at the last kilometres and left him with the silver medal.

Pogacar was pleased at the end of the competition when he finally could be on the highest step of the final podium after the disappointment he lived last week. "After second place last week coming back and taking the win felt really nice," he commented. "It was a course I knew very well, and we had trained a lot on it during the week.

"Jan (Polanc, his teammate and who scored the third best time of the competition) has showed his form is coming really good too. He worked hard last week for me in the road race and to get the bronze is really nice for the team also."

Update: Later on the day, it was the turn for the women's peloton to face the same route the men did in the time trial competition. Pogacar's girlfriend Urska Zigart took the title by completing the course in 40 minutes and 44 seconds.
