NTT Pro Cycling has announced the roster that will participate at the virtual Tour de France.

The virtual version of the French grand tour is set to be held on the Zwift platform over the first three weekends of July, the month in which the race should have been originally. Although the real race already has dates in the new calendar of the UCI -from the 29th of August to the 20th of September- the virtual race will close the period without racing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The virtual Tour de France will have six stages that will be held over three weekends and 23 of the best teams in the world of cycling will complete to take the virtual yellow, green, polka-dot and white jerseys on routes that will replicate the real race, including a closing stage in the Champs-Elysees.

This event will raise funds for five charity partners: Emmaüs, Secours populaire français, Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur, BiJeWa and Qhubeka.

Louis Meintjes will be part of the roster after winning the Queen Stage of the Tour for All, also organised by Zwift, and he will do so on the 5th and the 18th of July, being the latter an important day for NTT Pro Cycling as it traditionally celebrates Mandela Day at the Tour de France that day.

"At first it was strange to think of a July without the Tour de France but now that we have the Virtual Tour de France, and then also the actual Le Tour scheduled for late August, I think this could be a great thing for cycling," said the South African rider. "Basically, we have two opportunities this year to leverage the global attraction Le Tour has, to represent our teams, partners and countries.

"I was quite happy to see that they made 18 July a climbing stage of the Virtual Tour de France. Mandela Day is a significant day for South African's. I was part of the 2015 Tour de France team when Steve Cumming's won on Mandela Day and that was something special. I will certainly be giving it my all, knowing everyone back in South Africa will be watching eagerly."

Along with Meintjes, Ryan Gibbons, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Rasmus Tiller, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Stefan de Bod, Gino Mader, Ben O'Connor, Max Walscheid, Michael Valgren, Michael Gogl, Michael Carbel and Domenico Pozzovivo will also defend NTT's colours at the virtual race.
