Update: Arkea-Samsic's statement on the accident of Nairo Quintana:
"On the morning of the Friday, July 3, while doing his daily training on the road that links Tunja with Motavita, kilometre 7.8 heading to the Alto del Sote, Nairo Quitana was involved in an accident. The circumstances of the situation were as follows: the accompanying vehicle of Arkea-Samsic was 20 metres away from Dayer and Nairo Quintana. A vehicle was on the road heading the same way as the group and took over the accompanying car, after which he came back to the lane and hit Nairo, who then crashed, hitting his left knee and elbow.
The implicated vehicle tried to escape but the accompanying car chased it and when it saw it, the other vehicle stopped voluntarily. A few minutes later, the National and traffic police arrived to the scene to be with Nairo and the team. Nairo Quintana wants to use this accident to raise awareness to everyone that is on the roads and everything that happens on it.
The road is for everyone and the respect for the lives of all the people has to be a priority. Today it was an accident without serious consequences, but tomorrow it could be one to regret. In the next hours, Nairo will be checked by his personal doctor to rule out any serious injuries. We thank everyone that has shown concerns about the health of Nairo, and we will communicate the results of his medical tests."
Later on the day, the Colombian rider let the public know through the Twitter account of local radio broadcaster Caracol, that the hit caused an inflammation in the knee, and he has to stay two weeks off the bike to let it recover.
