Bahrain McLaren's Ivan Garcia Cortina is set to start his season in Strade Bianche, but he's already thinking of his future at a longer term.

The rider became a professional with the team currently known as Bahrain McLaren in 2017, he has a contract with it until the end of the year and this is why he's studying his options for the future. The Spaniard has shown his talents in the sprints, classics and one-day races, so he's not short of options.

"At the beginning I had the intention of waiting to the Tour de France to let the road decide," he said to Spanish website Biciciclismo. "But in the current circumstances the situation has changed and if I wait for the Tour it would be too late, so me and my managers have been talking to teams and checking the different options, of course also including Bahrain."

The rider knows a bit about the rest of his season, but many things are still unknown. "I think I will start with Strade Bianche, (Milano) Sanremo, and then we will do an altitude training camp in Envalira with in theory the roster for the Tour de France, I think I'm in the list for it but there's nothing 100 per cent certain.

"In the training camp I hope to go back to shape and show that I'm ready to go to the Tour. I'd be delighted, particularly to go with Mikel (Landa) and help him, but it doesn't depend on me. The team has its needs and it will take the riders that can perform the best. Maybe I can't be there for the climbs, but for the flat ones and other difficult ones like the windy stages I can be there."
