Ecuadorian media has confirmed that the country won't be starting at the Tour de l'Avenir or the Road World Championships of 2020 due to financial problems.

The Ecuadorian website Primicias got the confirmation from Oswaldo Hidalgo, president of the Cycling Federation. The South American country will not only miss the two European races but won't host the 37th edition of the Vuelta al Ecuador either, which is a hit for a sport that has been taking off there.

Hidalgo mentioned that the Federation already got in touch with the organisation of the Tour de l'Avenir -race in which Androni Giocattolli's Alexander Cepeda won the Queen Stage in 2019 and got him a contract with the Italian team- to turn down the invitation.

"We already sent a communication thanking them for the invitation and telling them that we will be delighted to be there next year if we are invited," he explained. "We haven't been able to have any riders racing so far. It was impossible for us to go like that."

And for the World Championships of Aigle-Martigny the hopes aren't high either, despite the country has four spots for the road race and Richard Carapaz (Ineos) had already shown his interest in going, considering that the route will suit a rider of his characteristics.

Hidalgo estimates that the selection will need around 65000 dollars to be in the event, and he doesn't think they will have the money to participate. "We haven't decided anything yet," he affirmed. "We don't want to rush that decision. We will wait to see the shape of the riders that are travelling to Europe and see if we can take them to Switzerland."
