Michael Storer has been sent out of the training camp of Austria by his team Sunweb for failing to follow the internal precautions set in coronavirus times.

Sunweb is at the moment in a training camp in Kühtai, Austria, where the riders have been divided in three bubbles to avoid any risks related to the Covid-19. Each bubble has its own permanent coach and soigneur and the hotel in which they are staying doesn't have any more guests, which allows them to keep safety to the maximum.

But the Australian rider broke the rules -and the bubble in which he was immersed- by going out shopping, Dutch cycling website WielerFlits.com reports. This was the reason why he was sent back home.

"We apply very strict precautions during our training camp in Kühtai, Austria," the team said to the site. "We want to limit interaction with the outside world as much as possible to minimize the risk of infection of the bubbles. Not only not to get infected ourselves, but also to minimize the risks of brining the virus into the peloton when the competition returns on August 1."

But the team insists that this was not a punishing measure against Storer, but to ensure the security of everybody else. "It is purely as precaution and Michael fully understands it," the team explained. "Top sport in corona times is a new situation for everyone. A lot is demanded from people and of course we also understand that riders and staff have to get used to this."
